Gowalla uploaded this image to their server this morning.

It’s not visible on the site, or in the app yet from what we can tell. But it means the time is almost here for us to be able to get our hands on the data they said we’d be able to download.

We’re just speculating here, but we might also be able to import that data into Facebook.

Yesterday it was announced that Gowalla founder and CEO Josh Williams since moving over to Facebook had been working on new Timeline API’s that let developers integrate new features such as friend-tagging, photos and check-ins.
These new features sound great, in theory you ~~could~~ would have been able to checkin on Gowalla, tag a Facebook friend (without them having, or getting a Gowalla account from doing so) share a bunch of pictures from both services and others, and it would all be streamlined as if everyone was using the same app.

Timelines a clever feature, so if in the past you pushed your checkins to Facebook, it might now be able to pull in all the photos you added to those checkins too, and maybe connect those with friends who checked in at the same time..

Like we said, it’s all speculation. But this might be why it’s taken Gowalla so long to sort out the data export. They might have been waiting for this.

We’re not going to drag this post out.

We said back in December that we’d make roundup posts out of all of the artwork, like the custom stamp one we made. We’ve been slow at doing so, sure, but there’s been little drive to do so at the same time what with there being no Gowalla anymore.

So here’s the next post, as promised.

All that city guide artwork that Gowalla created, including the ones that didn’t seem to make it out before they were acquired by Facebook.
We’ve not bothered linking them to the guides this time, the new ones you’ve not seen before didn’t go anywhere anyway. But they’re all still nice to look at.

That’s it for this time. There’s a couple more posts planned, we’ll get round to them, sometime.

All The Custom Stamps : There's ever been | 5th December

We’ve been planning a post like this for a while. But with all the rumours and speculation about the sale of Gowalla to Facebook, now seemed like a decent time to post it.

We’ve been fond Gowalla users for along time, and we’ve been collecting all the art daily for almost as long, longer than we’ve been posting it here for everyone, regrettably. We wish we could have started sharing earlier, like we have been for as long as we’ve been running now. Sorry we weren’t there for you sooner.

So, today, for those of you who still care a little, and haven’t deleted their account in anger, we’ve collated together every single custom stamp there has ever been on Gowalla, right back to the start.

Every stamp is clickable, and goes through to the spots page. Some no longer work and you’ll just get errors as the spots are gone, and unfortunately the event spots from way back when, have no data with them. No list of who was there for all those old meet ups you had, and no photos for those you had after photos were added. Would be great to look back through that first Gowalla meet up you had, that was official to the point they made you a custom stamp for it, but no, you can’t. We thought this would have been fixed by now, but it’s looking like it never will be.

There’s a few stamps which we’re purchased that have wormed their way in as well, we pulled out most of the ones we knew we’re not regular spots, and a whole load of the old style state pins, but just a heads up that a few have slipped in there.

There’s loads of the same stamp, like the new Christmas one close to the top, that’s because it’s the same stamp for different spots, we decided to just leave all spots like that in instead of just doing one of each.

Some stamps were released, then tweaked, a little bit more colour here, a different border there. We’ve got them all, all iterations which were at some point live.

We’re planning more posts like this, where we’ll post out other art on Gowalla, maybe all the spots which were bought will get there own list. We already did the new state pins, but we’ll revisit that at some point too no doubt, maybe in one final roundup post. There’s still a lot we have in mind, especially when the day comes there’s an update on the official Gowalla blog saying ‘So long, and thanks for the good times’.

So sit back, get your scrolling finger at the ready, and remember all the amazing custom artwork that’s gone into making Gowalla so great these last few years.

We tried to embed all this in this Tumblr post, but it shouted at us, then fell over and died. So we’ve had to use some free hosting service instead.

New Partner City Guides : Lomography | 4th November

We’re not entirely sure what the deal is with these new partner guides from Lomography, but we’ve found 4 of them so far, so they’re not a new partner, but it’s nice to see them back.
Gowalla have partnered up with Lomography in the past. At SXSW in 2010 Gowalla were dropping virtual Diana F+ and Oktomat Lomography cameras around Austin, TX, and some of those items were redeemable for real cameras.
The guides have lists curated by Team Gowalla at the moment, so maybe they’re not really supposed to be getting their time in the limelight just yet, but they’ve appeared, and we do our best to keep you up to date.

We’ll update if we find anymore information out.
